A Wet Snowdon walk

Oct 2025

We had intended to walk the famous Snowdon Horseshoe but the wet and windy weather effectively ruled this out, leaving us with the B plan. This was out of the PCU back gate & up Telegraph valley to the col, turn immediate left up the shoulder to Moel Cynghorion & down to join the Snowdon Ranger path up to the Snowdon summit. Lastly, down the Railway path back to PCU.

The walkers were Phil Moore, Martin Bell, Paul Bunker, Hüseyin & Tim Gould.

We were joined for the first time by Hüseyin who was very happy to be with us in the Welsh hills, despite the weather. He’s back to Everest base camp next year – let’s hope Nepal is drier than Wales.

A quick stop in the Snowdon summit cafe was a strange alternate reality after the battle through the wind and rain to get up there – tourists dressed for Cheshire Oaks & funky 70’s Starsky & Hutch music…. then back out into the wind & rain.

The ‘be prepared’ award goes to Paul Bunker for his packing 3 changes of clothes. Best waterproofs award goes to Martin Bell who had reproofed his kit just before so was only mildly damp, rather than soaked through like the rest of us.

Talking of Martin, he’s leading the next walk to Aran Fawddwy on the 9th November. I’ll be reproofing my kit before then.
