Presidents Celebration Meet 8th -11th August 2025

Following his sad passing in July, it was a fitting tribute to Jim Jones that we had a hut full at the meet. Initially he had hoped to attend in person, then we hoped to talk after his planned operation. With the devastating news of his death, we decided to still hold the meet as a celebration of his life and significant contribution to this club over many years.

Jim was always around to offer knowledge and advice to new and old members, so he will be in our thoughts for a long time. Thanks to the people who brought and prepared the food, and even brought some of Jim’s favourite beer to share.

As Jim would have wanted, everybody got out climbing and walking, with a forward party of Alf and Kyle heading for the Slate on Friday.

Saturday was a rush around the hut to get out. Most headed for the Pass. With climbing of the Grochan, Wastad, and Dinas Mot. Malcolm Barr walked the hut skyline around Snowdon. Alf, was on fire climbing Phantom Rib while Neil pushed even harder onsighting Quasar.  Barbara and Sandra went for the classics. Crackstone Rib and Wrinkle. The two teams climbed on the Dinas Mot –  Chris and Kyle did Superdirect, Ian and Mark did Western Slabs. The only crisis was Mark and Ian’s rope jamming on the abseil.

Saturday night we were bolstered by Kylie, Mesh, Kev, Gwyn, Tanya, Laura Greene, Rick and Carol. We were served with aperitifs of cheese nachos and home grown tomatoes served on pesto and sourdough. Main was a choice/all three of Curry/Bolognaise/Risotto followed by fruit crumble.

Sunday saw a large contingent on the recommendation of Paul Tanton heading to a solid granite crag on the Llyn. Paul and Kev heralded its praises. The only negative reported was it was in shade until 2pm.

Teams returned to the Pass with the Cromlech, Wasted and Dinas Mot having a CMC contingent. Alf and Ian H climbing The Cracks and Direct route with no rope jams. There was another ascent of Crackstone Rib followed by Shadow Wall by Ian and Mark. Chris and Kyle climbed Cemetery Gates/Grim Jim and Ivy Sepulchre while Mesh, Kylie and Gwyn ascended Dives and Better things. Stew climbed with Neil and added the Grooves on Cyrn Las to his Hard Rock CV.  Martin and I headed to upper Australia so he could initiate himself to the Slate. While there we met Rick – small world.

Attendees Stew, Neil and Sandra, Paul and Barbara, Paul Tanton, Ian Hebbon, Seamus, Martin Clayton, Ian Henderson, Alf, Chris, Kyle, Malcolm Barr, Gwyn, Kylie, Mesh, Mark Hawley, Tanya, Rick and Carol, Laura, Isabel.
